Dove Cream Beauty Bathing Bar Review

The Story Behind:

I am a Dove a girl. I had been using Dove products much before I started experimenting with all other fancy brands and luxurious cosmetics. I was first introduced to Dove by my mom, when I was a teenager. Back then, there was no concept of body washes, bath gels, shower gels, body butters, cream baths and body lotions that we have now. The original Dove soap was the only soap that was gentle enough for my sensitive skin.

Dove stood me in good stead. Despite having a dry skin, I was often called as the girl with the ‘marble skin’ during my college days. Thanks to the ¼ moisturizing cream in this bathing bar, it used to leave my skin wonderfully soft, white, and smooth. Moving to Mumbai, however, I moved my loyalties.

How to Get Rid of Bad Beach Tan Quickly

tips to get rid of beach tan quickly

The road to a beautiful skin doesn’t have to be difficult. But if you are recently back from a trip to the beach, flawless skin may seem like a distant dream. Although, catching waves at the beach means a lot of fun, it also means a great deal of tanning and irritating sun burns.

Tan is sexy, no doubt. I loved the glorious bronze look of my arms, legs, face and neck after I returned home from a lovely holiday in Thailand. But the penetrating sun rays also soak in the moisture from your skin, making it dry and frail. Within a week your beautiful bronze look is turned into ugly darkening and uneven skin tone.

Winter Hair Care Special: Tips for Dry, Damaged Hair

winter hair care special tips for dry damaged hair

With love in the air, winter is expected to be still around the corner. One of my favorite winter pass time is to cuddle in the quilt with some interesting book, freshly baked cookies, and beat the chill with copious mugs of hot creamy coffee. While, I love everything about winters – food, festivals, bonfires and coffee dates, my hair actually dread this cold weather. Frosty winds take all the moisture and luster off my hair.

I have normal to dry hair that become excessively dry and limp with the onset of winter season. And this time, I also started losing several of my precious strands to the harsh effects of the weather. Looking for ways to keep my hair shining and healthy during the winter season, I found this interesting write up: “6 Must Read Tips for Healthy Winter Hair” on a Home Shopping Network Site written by their beauty expert, Ann Colville Somma.

Godrej Expert Rich Creme Hair Color Review; Truly a Wow Hair Color

g1The Story Behind:

When I first saw the advertisement for Godrej Expert Rich Creme Hair Color on TV, I could instantly identify with the situation to the one at home. The only difference is unlike Parizad (Mom in TV commercial) who was hesitant about coloring her hair, my mother-in-law who had always used traditional hair color was hesitant about the new creme hair colors in the market. Her biggest concern was the high price tag that comes with these creme hair colors.

Well, this is not just her concern but a concern of majority of Indian women. It was only when she suffered from a really bad scalp allergy from the ammonia in a hair color, I managed to convince her about the benefits of using a crème based hair color over chemical-laden traditional hair colors and got Garnier Color Naturals for her.

Growing up, I always wanted to be beautiful. I never felt I was pretty enough. Even when somebody would compliment me or told me I am beautiful, I never believed those. I could never see or feel my beauty. Over the years, it only got worse. I always saw the ugly ducking in the mirror. The pressure put by images of flawless models on the covers of magazines, TV ads, internet was too overwhelming.

How to Eat Right for Beautiful Skin and Hair

Raw food vs cooked food How to Eat Right for Beautiful Skin and Hair

My raw food obsession began when I was in college. The food cooked in my hostel mess was pathetic. Luckily, we had a fruit shop at our campus. First, I replaced my breakfast of inedible ‘paranthas’ with a refreshing glass of mango shake. On those hot summer days, it gave me that much needed satisfaction and energy.

My rosy cheeks that had turn pale from that unsavory hostel food, started blushing again. Gradually, I replaced my diner too with bananas and a glass of milk. Very soon I was glowing with full health. I started spending more time in library, reading books about fitness, health and beauty. I discovered, how wonderful raw food diet can be for weight loss and health.

I turned vegan. Not only did I stopped eating eggs, drinking milk and banished all dairy from my diet but also stopped eating all cooked food. My diet comprised of only fruits and a little bit of salads. First, I lost all curves, then my skin became sallow and dull. My hair started shedding and my cheeks became hollow.

The debate between raw vs cooked food is still hot. While many raw food enthusiasts especially Tonya Zavasty, author of “Your Right to Be Beautiful: Miracle of Raw Foods” have achieved wonders with 100 % raw food diet, many like me have met with undesired outcomes. This brings me to this post, to enlighten all beauty freaks with the importance of right food and nutrition in realizing their dream for fabulous skin and shiny hair.

I am neither for cooked foods, nor for going totally raw. When it comes to beauty, middle path is the best. No doubt, cooking kills certain essential enzymes, vitamins and minerals in some foods, but cooking also kills many harmful bacteria, chemicals etc. present in fruits and vegetables today. Also, cooking sometimes softens the food making it more palatable and digestible.

So here are some tips on which foods should be cooked and which are better eaten raw.

Never Deep Fry Your Foods:

Raw vs cooked food How to Eat Right for Beautiful Skin and HairDeep frying foods releases free radicals that are notorious for causing all sorts of damage. From causing pre- mature wrinkles to diseases like cancer and heart attack, free radicals are extremely dangerous to our overall health & wellbeing.

Always Cook Your Spinach, Carrot and Other Greens:

Raw vs cooked food How to Eat Right for Beautiful Skin and HairSpinach, carrots, mushrooms, cabbage, and all bell peppers contain antioxidants like cartenoids, ferulic acid, etc. which are best delivered and better absorbed by the body when cooked. Ferulic acid is a well known anti-ageing and skin lightening nutrient.

Savor Your Tomatoes in Ketchup and Puree:

Raw vs cooked food How to Eat Right for Beautiful Skin and HairTomatoes are the richest source of Lycopene, a powerful antioxidant and a natural sunscreen. Studies have shown that 30 minutes of cooking tomatoes on low heat increases lycopene content by 35%. Great reason to relish your ketch up all the more!

With Nuts & Fruits Take the Raw Route:

Raw vs cooked food How to Eat Right for Beautiful Skin and HairNuts contain many essential fatty acids that are great for skin and hair. However, on heating or cooking, these turn into bad cholesterol which is dangerous for the body. Similarly, fruits contain many essential vitamins especially vitamin C, which gets destroyed in cooking.

Garlic & Onion, Abstain from Heating Them:

How to Eat Right for Beautiful Skin and HairGarlic and onion are best eaten raw. They contain many powerful compounds like Allicin, Sulphur, Zinc and Calcium that have amazing health & beauty benefits. They also contain selenium, which helps in the absorption of Vitamin E in the body. Cooking destroys many of these essential compounds.

Last but not the least, always chew your food well, savoring each morsel as you eat. Natural beauty begins from making right choices. Eat the right foods and experience the magic of health and beauty permeating all the areas of your life. Blissful eating!!

PS: The article was originally published on Aug 7, 2013 and here’s the latest update on the topic:

“British Journal of Nutrition published a study, which found participants who followed a strict raw food diet had normal levels of vitamin A and high levels of antioxidant beta-carotene (found in dark green and yellow fruits and vegetables) but relatively low levels of the antioxidant lycopene (red pigment found in tomatoes and red bell peppers, among others). This brings to the conclusion that not all vegetables eaten raw are healthier and nor all cooked or processed foods is unhealthy.”

Mirror Mirror on the Wall: How Mood Affects Beauty

Mirror Mirror on the Wall: How Mood Affects Beauty

I was having a busy day at the office. In fact, my life had taken on a hectic track with numerous priorites yelling for attention all at the same time. No doubt, the beauty freak in me had to take a back seat. While, I was still religiously following my basic skin care rituals, cleansing, toning and moisturizing and washing my face before going to bed, come what may, I was shocked to see my image on the washroom mirror of my office.

All kinds of spots, blotchy complexion, big open pores and limp hair stared back at me. I never knew stress and mood can have such deep impact upon your skin. We all have heard about this well known phrase “our eyes are windows to our soul”. But how we feel inside, reflects so well on the outside has now been scientifically proven. Where happiness brightens your complexion, blues make your skin look dark and sullen.

Well, not just the skin, your mood affects your mane too. Hair become dull and lifeless. Linger a little longer in the funk and soon wrinkles will start forming and hair will start falling. Scary but true. Now here is some beauty science, why this happens and how this happens. I know we love things that are all girlie and easy but beauty requires a little bit of brains too. Learn how different moods affect the look of your skin and health of your hair.

Take Stress and Age Your Face:

How Mood Affects Beauty This is the biggest beauty bummer. Stress causes the adrenal glands to increase the production of cortisol hormone. While, cortisol helps you achieve your tasks and keep you going, it depletes your system overtime leading to hormonal problems like hair loss, acne, skin discoloration, pigmentation and dull complexion.

Feel Low and Blow Your Glow:

How Mood Affects Beauty No matter what the reason but the moment you start feeling low, you actually blow all radiance off your skin. Blues leach all moisture from your skin cells causing dehydration.  Dark circles, puffy eyes, lack lustre skin and dull, flat hair are mainly due to dehydration. Overtime, it can lead to loss of collagen creating fine lines and premature wrinkles.

Anger & Frown, Dig Burrows in your Brow:

How Mood Affects Beauty Ever wondered how do you look when you frown? You actually have to raise your eye brows up high your crown and lower the corners of your mouth down to your neck to construct a formidable frown. Quite a hard work! No surprise, it takes only 17 muscles to smile, while 43 to frown. The tension mars all your beauty, digging big burrows in your brows and pulling down your entire face. Another reason, you should have control over that menacing temper.

Get Scared and Make Your Skin Go Pale:

How Mood Affects Beauty Too much of anxiety, nervousness, unnecessary fear and fretting cause all blood from the body including your face march towards the heart as your mind goes into ‘fight or flight’ response. When all blood will move out from your face, obviously your skin would wear a pale and ghostly appearance.

So the next time you ask mirror mirror on the wall, do a quick mood check deep inside your heart. No matter, what the situation, how you feel, finally it all shows on your face. Laughter is the best medicine, we all know, but laughter is the greatest beauty aid, we now know.

Laughter along with releasing the feel good hormone, endorphin, increases blood flow to the face, making you look bright and radiant. So for everlasting beauty and natural blush, don’t forget to wear your smile high and keep your spirits from falling dry. Happy Smiling!!

PS: The post was originally published on Aug 5, 2013 and here’s the latest update to it:

“All the emotions you most predominantly express throughout your life become visible on your face. All your pain, fears, worries, judgments, and disapprovals finally get written on your face and reflect as the person you are in your heart and mind. So beauty in the most simple words is a choice that you make daily by choosing the way you feel at the moment.”
