There was a time when Clean and Clear was new! I know, hard to believe but true.
I was still in school when I first spotted its ad on TV and BAM – it became the coolest thing ever in my beauty routine. Fast forward a few years into college and Clean & Clear remained my HG beauty product.
Even now, I vividly remember how this basic drugstore face wash saved my skin back in those days. Yes, throughout my teens I had mad oily skin and it was Clean & Clear that helped me sail all those troubled years looking clean, clear, and confident.
Seriously, finding this bottle of oil-free face wash, while cleaning one of my bathroom drawers today, brought back all those memories of my early beauty product days. Can you close your eyes and imagine for a second how your favorite perfume smells? I can do this with Clean and Clear face wash.
I clearly remember its unique mild, slightly citrusy, slightly floral, light and invigorating scent. And I still remember how this clear drugstore face wash foamed up making my skin feel extremely clean, smooth, and fresh.
So girls here comes the review of the most loved and the very first oil-free face wash for most of us:
The good old Clean and Clear foaming facial wash comes in a see-through plastic bottle with a dark blue flip open cap. While, not much has changed in its trademark packaging, the brand has overtime launched many different variants of its scrubs, moisturizers, and cleansers.
Texture of this oil-free face wash is like a colorless gel that lathers well. It is rightly called foaming facial wash, as only a dime sized amount builds into dense cushiony foam that only feels smooth on the skin but also deep cleans the skin.
Do I need to mention? Fragrance indeed is one of the best features of this foaming cleanser. Just a whiff of this nostalgic face wash makes me feel clean and fresh!
What I Like about Clean and Clear Face Wash
Apart from its familiar fresh fragrance, I like the fact this drugstore face wash cleans the skin well, removing every speck of dirt, grime, and pollution from the face. It controls oil secretion without drying the skin. And is also one of the most affordable and reliable cleansers in the market for normal to oily skinned beauties.
What I Don’t Like about this Face Wash
It is a basic formula best suited for teenage girls with normal to oily skin. For women over 25 and girls with dry skin or special concerns, the face wash is lacking in many respects. Also while, the cleanser is oil and soap free, it does contain sodium laureth sulfate (SLS)… one of the ingredients in garage floor cleaners, engine degreasers and car-wash soaps!
Chill! Clean and Clear is a Johnsons and Johnsons product and definitely not a harsh product. It was so mild and gentle on me that during all my teenage and through most of my 20s, Clean and Clear face wash was the only cleanser my skin craved.
However, my skin has changed a lot overtime and this once HG cleanser is no more the same miracle beauty product for me.
- Extremely affordable and easily available oil-free face wash
- No-fuss travel-friendly packaging
- Mild citrusy floral scent
- Leaves skin feeling squeaky clean and fresh
- Gentle formula that does not dry or irritate the skin
- Controls oil secretion to some extent
- Contains SLS
- No special or impressive ingredients
- May not suit dull, dry, and mature skin concerns
R2B Rating: 3/5
Clean and Clear foaming face wash is one of my favorite beauty products from the past. While, it is not a miracle product, it has helped me get through my teens and 20s. If you have normal to oily skin and looking for an oil-free, affordable, gentle cleanser, do give it a try.
