Akosma Dermatalogique Advanced Retinol Night Repair Cream

This post is going to be super beneficial for those looking for a good retinol night cream, those looking to get rid of pigmentation, fine lines and wrinkles and also those aspiring to transform their skin.

The last few months had been a hell of a ride! With too many things all happening at the same time, it had been a struggle keeping up with things that were once my second nature, like maintaining a consistent skincare routine!

And carrying on with the barest minimal it took for me to function – morning face wash, moisturizer, and sunscreen on most days, I realised that I could do a much better job by adding at least a retinol night cream to my routine.

So, after much research and carefully watching a couple of detailed YouTube videos by dermatologists online, I ordered this advanced night repair cream by Akosma Dermatologique. I’ve been using this night cream for the last month and have found it

But before I proceed with this night cream review, I would like to talk a bit about retinol and why it is considered a benchmark of excellence when it comes to beauty and anti-ageing skincare.

What is retinol?

Retinol is a type of retinoid, which is a derivative of vitamin A. It is widely used in skincare due to its powerful effects on skin health and appearance. Retinol is often found in over-the-counter skincare products such as creams, serums, and lotions, and it is known for its ability to improve various skin concerns, including signs of ageing, acne, and uneven skin tone.

How it works?

Retinol works by penetrating the skin and accelerating the turnover of skin cells, which means it helps the skin shed its outer layer of dead cells more quickly. This process promotes the production of new skin cells, resulting in fresher, smoother skin. Retinol also boosts collagen production, which helps maintain skin firmness and elasticity.

Why is Retinol Called the Gold Standard in Anti-Aging Skincare?

Retinol is often referred to as the “gold standard” in anti-ageing skincare due to its proven efficacy and versatility in treating various skin concerns. Besides ageing skin, retinol can help heal acne, large pores, rough texture, pigmentation and even some forms of dermatitis. This versatility makes it a valuable ingredient in many skincare routines.

Now that you have a fair knowledge of this miracle ingredient and how it can be helpful in your skincare routine, let’s go straight to today’s review:

How’s the texture?

The retinol night cream feels soft and velvety to the touch. It has a mousse-like texture that spreads and absorbs easily into the skin. Unlike other creams in this category, it’s quite lightweight.

How do you use it?

In my PM routine.

After cleansing my face, I take a pea-sized amount and dot it all over my face. Then I gently massage into my skin using fingertips with upward-outward circular motion. Use sun protection during the day.

Since I’m not new to retinol, I use this cream daily in my PM routine barring only the times I’m too tired for my nightly regime or forget. But if you’re a beginner, I would suggest you use it twice a week, building up to 3-4 times per week depending on your skin’s needs.

And if you’re already using an acid product (AHA/BHA serum/toner), I would suggest you use this and your acid product on alternate days.

What’s good about it?

The three most advanced retinols are combined in this product to maximise its antiaging potential. The superior blend ensures increased firmness, smoother texture and an even-toned complexion. I’ve been using this cream for over a month now and I have noticed a stark improvement in the texture and tone of my skin.

Besides retinol, the cream also contains high-quality conditioning agents that support the skin barrier whilst soothing and nourishing the skin. It has made my skin smooth and glowing and is helping with my stubborn hyperpigmentation (which is a big deal for me!).

Each morning when I wake up after using this cream, there is a visible GLOW on my face. It has slightly faded my dark spots, so I need to wear less cover-up during the day.

As for the fines and wrinkles, it hasn’t made those eleven lines between my brows completely disappear but it has certainly made them look less noticeable and prominent. Here’s my checklist for its claimed benefits:

Fine lines & wrinkles – 8/10

Firmness – 7/10

Pigmentation – 8/10

Acne – 7/10

Texture & radiance – 9/10

What’s not so good about it?

Price.

Retailing for INR 2999 for a 50 g tub, it’s pricey!

Would I repurchase or repurchase it?

Yes, for the time being. But if I find an equally good cheaper option, I would like to move on to the newer option.

My experience and final thoughts

Since I hadn’t been taking good care of my skin for long, my skin had started to look dull and lifeless with deep dark melasma patches on both sides of my cheeks. My skin started improving rapidly when I became diligent about skincare and added this retinol night cream to my routine.

My pigmentation marks have lightened and eleven lines are less visible now. I have experienced no sensitivity, break outs, or dryness after using this triple retinol product.  So, all in all, Akosma night cream has proved to be a game changer for me.

And I highly recommend this to all those lovely ladies struggling with signs of ageing, stress and pigmentation for younger-looking, radiant skin.
