avoid-Strawberry-legs

Do you shave your legs? Have you ever noticed dark spots on your legs? If you have, you are not alone. It is perfectly normal. The condition is known as strawberry legs. But there is nothing sweet about strawberry legs.

Now, while they do not cause any health concerns, strawberry legs, or dark spots on your legs can be quite negative for your self-esteem. Imagine you are getting ready to go out, you put on your mini skirt on, only to see that your bare legs have dark spots on them.

What are strawberry legs?

what are strawberry legsDark pores on your skin are caused by impurities becoming trapped inside the skin. Strawberry legs are basically a bunch of dark pores. Sebum, excess oil, dirt, bacteria, and more can become trapped inside your pores. Once they are oxidized, they turn the pores to brown color.

These really, really dark pores are usually caused by improper shaving. When you are not shaving properly, you get ingrown hair. The ingrown hair gets trapped inside, and if not treated, causes dark dots appear on your skin. You might want to cover your strawberry legs with clothes, but what happens in the summer, when miniskirts are the golden standard? Well, that is what we are trying to solve today.

Exfoliating tips for prevention

The best way to ensure there are no dark dots on your skin is to exfoliate on a regular basis. Exfoliation keeps dark pores at bay. Shaving properly is another way to prevent dark pores. When it comes to exfoliation, we recommend doing it on a regular basis using a body scrub.

We leave the choice of an exfoliating agent at you. We can recommend some home remedies for exfoliation, of course. Exfoliating is best done before shaving. One or two days before shaving, we recommend doing a dry skin brushing. How to do it? Simple! Vigorously brush your legs with a soft dry brush in circular motions before taking a shower or a bath.

And before shaving, make sure to soak your skin in warm water for 5 to 10 minutes. This will open up your pores and hair follicles, and draw out impurities.

Tips for proper shaving

As mentioned previously, improper shaving is the biggest cause of strawberry legs. With that in mind, how to do it properly? It is just astonishing how many women are not shaving properly. Here are some quick tips:

  • Always shave during or after a warm shower. At this point, your pores are larger, and you can make sure shaving does not clog them
  • Purchase a good razor. You need a razor that does not require a lot of pressure for shaving. This will provide a closer shave without causing your hair to snap back.
  • The blades on your razor have to be sharp. That means regular changing of your razor. You cannot use the same razor multiple times without changing the blades. Dull blades increase the chances of hair curling back into the skin and causing razor bumps.
  • Apply a moisturizing shaving cream or gel following the hair growth pattern. Gently shave in direction of hair growth. Do not pass the same area too many times, as it can irritate your skin. Be careful not to stretch your skin while shaving.
  • Once you are done with shaving, splash your skin with cold water to close the pores and hair follicles.
  • Pat your skin dry, and follow up with a fragrance-free cream, moisturizer, or lotion made for aftershave.

Home remedies for quick relief

Mistakes happen. And they can happen to anyone of us. You are in a hurry, and you have not shaved properly. Well, when that happens, you need a quick relief of strawberry legs. Especially if you are getting ready to go out, and you want to eliminate those dark spots. The best way to treat strawberry legs is with exfoliating homemade masks. You can use these for prevention, and for treatment as well.

  • For example, you can make a mask using cucumber and few drops of rose water. Just blend them together, apply on your legs, wait for the skin to absorb the mixture for 10 minutes, and then rinse.
  • An aloe vera massage is another great moisturizing and exfoliating treatment you can try. Just apply a couple of teaspoons of the gel on your skin, and massage for five minutes. Rinse afterward.
  • Last, but not least, we recommend trying the baking soda paste. It is one of the most common, and cheapest home remedies for strawberry legs. You can make a paste using one tablespoon of baking soda and 1 teaspoon of water. Apply to the affected area of your legs. Let your legs absorb the paste for three to five minutes. Rinse it afterward with cold water.
