DIY Sugar and Oil ScrubI’m a beauty products junkie. I love buying makeup, different skincare products and my beauty aisle is filled with myriad cosmetics from various brands. But when it comes to buying body scrubs, I always prefer to make my own. Not only, making your own body scrub is wickedly pleasant and cost effective but it also gives you total control over the ingredients.

Moreover, I always fail to understand why beauty products companies charge such high prices for things as simple and cheap as salt and sugar! The best way out is to make your own. One of my favorites and simplest of all DIY body scrubs is sugar and oil scrub. All you need is simple ingredients like table sugar, honey, lemon and coconut oil and viola you can treat yourself to a wonderfully soft and silky skin.

Here is the recipe:

1 cup Table Sugar

½ cup Honey

1 table spoon Lemon Juice

½ cup virgin Coconut Oil

Put all the ingredients together in a mixing bowl and blend them well with a spatula or a spoon.

If you are like me, who loves to transform their daily bathing ritual into luxurious bath time bliss, I would suggest you to transfer the contents of your mixing bowl into an attractive glass jar with a lid and keep it into your shower for an easy reach.

You can also add a few drops of essential oil or a fragrance of your choice to the mixture to make it smell divine. Depending on mood, I personally prefer the scent of lavender or velvety aroma of vanilla essence to my body scrub.

For Effective Scrubbing / How to Scrub the right way

After years of experience, I have found that scrubs work best on dry skin. So as you step into the bath, take a spoonful of the mixture into your palms and smear it all over your dry body skin. Using gentle strokes rub the mixture on your skin in a circular motion.

Also, you need to take care where to scrub more and where to take it easy. For tougher areas like knees, elbows, soles of your feet etc. spend extra time scrubbing, while, on places like the chest, neck, and stomach, where the skin is thinner, you can go easy with the buffing.

Once you feel your entire body skin is buffed, you can rinse thoroughly with warm water. Pat the skin dry. Your skin should feel radiant and smooth. You need not follow it up with a body lotion or a moisturizer as coconut oil would have moisturized your skin well.
